This recording was made for Dare 2025-08:

I used my fingernails against the side of my bed mattress. The mattress fabric has a bit of texture, the first 3 scrapes were done against the texture grooves and produce a louder more aggressive sound.
The next 3 scrapes were done in the direction of the grooves and resulted in a smoother sound.
You can also hear an artifact:
Especially at the end of scrape #1, in scrape #3, scrape #4 and scrape #6 there is a bit of resonance that comes from the recorder. I used my Zoom H1, and that resonance is the same that appears on recorder handling noise, if I am holing the recorder in my and.
This happened because the recorder was physically on top of the mattress and thus was able to 'couple' with this object. The vibrations on the mattress made the recorder plastic case resonate.
I did not realize that at the time, and I decided to keep the recording nonetheless (as a happy accident).
Generally I am more careful to avoid coupling (i.e. unwanted vibrations reaching the recorder) when placing I place it on top of hard surfaces, but I was a bit careless on this one...
